The William Penn University men's basketball squad used a late 13-3 run to edge Friends University, 81-73, on Friday night.

Friday night basketball action at Penn. The Statesmen hosting Friends University from Kansas and let’s fast forward to the second half with the visitors up six.

Junior Antione Howard doesn’t get picked up and he makes Friends pay, nice scoop lay-up, Penn still down 46-42 with 18 minutes left in the game.

But senior Alec Schwab is heating up, Schwab, splash, three ball. And just a few plays later, it’s Schawb again, bang, three more for Schwab, Penn cuts it to 50-48.

And we have a close one, Friends not going away, but senior Oliver Welles shows off his handles and gets to the rack. Welles finished with 18 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds, Penn up 56-52.

Fast forward to the six minute mark, Friends is on the move and James Williams drops the hammer, tying the game at 65-65, but not for long. You gotta get back on D' James, Schwab, bang, three ball and the foul. Penn up by three.

Less than five to go, Penn down two, and Welles again, crossover, bucket, and the foul. Penn takes the lead for good and the Statesmen never looked back.

Penn closes the game on a 13-3 run and goes on to win 81-73. The win puts the Statesmen at 5-2 after an 0-2 start. Schwab led all scorers with 31 points. Faith Baptist Bible is up next on Tuesday (Nov. 18).
