The William Penn University men's soccer squad (6-6) fell 2-1 to Culver-Stockton (7-4) on Wednesday night at Lacey.

Just a few minutes into the match, the ref calls a handball on WPU and penalty kick is the call. Jacob Schierding steps up and sophomore Pedro Pereira denies the Wildcats, still scoreless.

Later in the first, junior Sergio Carro finds sophomore Luiz Teles who finds some space and delivers a strike. Close one, still 0-0. Penn still on the attack, this time junior Yordan Rivera pairs up with Telez for the nice give-and-go, but Rivera can’t capitalize. Penn outshot the Wildcats 15-3 in the first half, but it’s 0-0 heading into the break.

Fast forward to the 50th minute, and off a cross it’s Thomas Cooper with the header and Pereira can’t get there on time, 1-0 Wildcats.

Twelve minutes later it’s Culver-Stockton on the attack, this time Dominic Caruso chips the goalie and it’s 2-0 Wildcats, as Caruso silences the crowd.

Eightieth minute now, and senior Milo Bruce-Burgess sets up, and what does he do? He puts it in the back of the net, what a strike, bend it like Milo, and the Statesmen are still alive.

Here comes Penn, after a low cross from Telez, junior Santos Ortiz puts it on frame but it’s Richard Balek with the save.

Last gasp for Penn, Rivera finds sophomore Randolph Tamba but he sends it over the crossbar. And that’s game.

William Penn falls to Culver-Stockton 2-1 despite outshooting the Wildcats 22-7.
