Oskaloosa's Harris Wins at Drake Relays, Moore and Westercamp Finish in Top 10 Print E-mail

Cool temps at the Drake Relays didn't freeze up the legs of Oskaloosa's red-hot J'Von Harris.

Harris is the #1 high jumper in the state and proved why with his hops once again, check this out.

The senior won the Drake title with a mark of 6'9". That's two inches higher than runner-up Cameron Cantrall from Spencer. Harris cleared 6'10" in Saydel just a few weeks ago. Teammate Jack Moore also made it to the blue oval, but his leap of 6'5" wasn't enough to land a spot on the podium. Moore finished eighth in the high jump event.

Harris is scheduled to compete in the long jump at 9:30 a.m. today, Friday, April 28th. Harris will switch over from the field events to the lanes to compete in the distance medley at 10:37 a.m. The OHS distance medley team consists of Harris, Seth Howard, Bennett Spry, and Carter Huyser. The 4X100 event will close out the Drake Relays for the Indians on Friday night at 6:05 p.m. Osky will hit the track in the relay event represented by Harris, Howard, Spry, and Casey Hill.

On the girls side Oskaloosa made it to Des Moines on the arm of Alexis Westercamp. The OHS discus thrower finished fifth after launching the implement 126'9". That mark was Westercamp's longest throw of five attempts. This year's discus champ goes to Iowa City West's Leah Dusterhoft. The senior finished with a winning throw of 129'3".
